Linear
Connect your Linear workspace so the AI knows your issues, projects, and team structure.
Overview
The Linear connection gives the AI read access to your Linear workspace. Once connected, the AI can reference your issues, project roadmaps, team organisation, and member information when answering questions or generating briefs. Instead of copying issue titles into a brief manually, you can ask the AI to work from what's already in Linear.
The connection uses OAuth, so there is no token to manage — you authorise Hamster directly through Linear.
What It Syncs
- Teams — Linear teams and their configuration
- Projects — Projects within each team, with status and metadata
- Issues — Issues and sub-issues, including titles, descriptions, status, priority, and labels
- Comments — Comments on issues
- Attachments — Files and links attached to issues
- Users — Workspace members and their profiles
Linear syncs the full workspace on connection. Data is indexed and available to the AI immediately. You can trigger a re-sync at any time from the connections page.
How to Connect
- Go to Settings > Connections and click the Linear card.
- In the dialog, click Connect with Linear.
- You are redirected to Linear's authorization page.
- Review the requested permissions and click Authorize.
- You are returned to Hamster Studio. The connection is created and indexing begins.
The connection is named after your Linear workspace automatically.
Permissions Requested
Hamster requests read-only access to your Linear workspace. This covers all the data types listed above. No write access is requested. The permission cannot be used to create, update, or delete issues.
Keeping Data Current
Linear syncs on connection. If your workspace changes significantly after that — new teams are created, projects are restructured, a major batch of issues is added — you can trigger a re-sync from the connections page. Open the connection card menu and select Quick Sync to pull in the latest data.
Tips
- You can connect only one Linear workspace per team. If your organisation uses multiple Linear workspaces, connect the one that is most relevant to the projects you run in this Hamster workspace.
- The AI can answer questions like "what are the open issues in the Onboarding project?" or "who is assigned to the highest-priority bugs?" once Linear is connected.
- Linear works especially well alongside GitHub. The AI can correlate issues with the code changes that address them when both sources are connected.
- Labels and priorities in Linear carry through as context. If you want the AI to understand what work is critical, make sure your priority fields are set in Linear.
